Founded in 1963 by David Oreck, the Oreck Corporation is currently located in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Oreck Company originally focused on manufacturing and marketing upright vacuums only to hotels and today, over 50,000 hotels across the globe use Oreck vacuums. It wasn't until hotel employees inquired about purchasing the vacuums for their own use that the company decided to go after the consumer market.

Though a well-known brand, Oreck has struggled with consumer popularity and partnered with Whirlpool to create more efficient models. This strategy worked and today, Oreck is on top of the heap with consumers. Oreck offers a wide range of models to choose from including upright vacuums, canister vacuums and central vacuums, many of which offer HEPA filters and different types of attachments.

All models are built on the original principal of creating a vacuum that's durable and lightweight. And founder David Oreck himself can still be seen today at age 82 selling his product in ads everywhere. Offering upright vacuums, canister vacuums, floor care machines, hand vacuums, and wet-dry vacuums, Oreck has something for everyone. The Oreck XL series - the most well-known product line - comes in four different models (though all are very lightweight at only eight pounds). Offering a basic filtration system to HEPA filtrations, Oreck XL uprights come with a three-year to twenty-one year warranty and free tune-ups (depending on the model selected).

One item Oreck does not offer is a bagless vacuum. Oreck claims that their seven layer filtration system and Saniseal system is superior to bagless vacuum cleaners as it is better able to keep dirt and dust inside the vacuum, not in the air. The bagged design is also a key element in keeping the vacuum cleaner lighter and easier to use than their bagless competitors.
